Railroad planner receives US$31 million - Industrial robots to become safe like cobots

At the beginning of June, the US startup Realtime Robotics received $31.4 million from various well-known investors. From a German perspective, the investment by Hahn Automation is noteworthy. The advantages of the company's software are said to be minimal programming effort, reprogramming during operation and seamless cooperation between different robots. They "take each other into consideration." This is made possible by the creation of potential movement plans, so that adjustments can be made in real time during operation.

A certified safety system for human-robot collaboration has been announced for 2022. Specifically, industrial robots without protective skin, etc., should then be capable of MRK-capable and be able to retain their capabilities (speed).

Typical applications mentioned by Realtime Robotics include spot welding, parts transfer (logistics!) or drilling/grinding. Currently, a complete integration into the systems of ABB, Universal Robots, Nachi, Kuka, Kawasaki, Siemens, Denso, Mitsubishi, Fanuc and Yaskawa is mentioned.

Somewhat unfavorably with this already one year old video I find that as animation robots play table tennis by means of the Realtime Robotics software. Omron has been demonstrating that this works well for years at trade fairs(link), albeit with great effort and only one robot. And of course the impression of the investors counts, which also includes Omron Ventures.
