Case study: Large palletizing with cobots

If a human is replaced by a cobot during palletizing, usually "only" money is saved and the employee does not have to bend down. In this video, however, it is about more: On the one hand, the human being saves the permanent lifting of heavy weights and, on top of that, the required area is reduced significantly. For the cycle time and pack weights of 5 kg shown in the video, at least four workstations were previously necessary.

Specifically, the British company Reeco has developed a station with two integrated Omron cobots. Each of the two cobots can lift 14 kg and is suspended from the ceiling. As is well known, not all robots can work upside down. The company calls itself Europe's No. 1 in cobot automation. I don't know if it's true, but it shows once again that the EU is technologically poorer without the United Kingdom.

The Case Packer CP1200 station is designed for companies where case packing is a core process of the business, i.e. probably it is not quite inexpensive. The station therefore offers improved throughput. The design of the system allows easy modification to suit case packing patterns and throughput requirements, while remaining compact and saving space.

The Case Packer enables the packing of trays and cartons. Product and containers arrive at one end of the cell via a conveyor belt, the cobots then pack to the required specification before the packed items continue their journey along the packaging line to be taped, labeled, palletized, etc.
