Robot remote maintenance and control: Olis Robotics

Quite a few people see robots as a way to work unmanned, at least on weekends or at night. But what happens when things go wrong? The robots may still be reliable, but there are always applications where there can be problems or something unforeseen happens.

US startup has a solution

Until a few months ago, there was no corresponding remote solution for controlling the robots. A CNC machine may sound the alarm via SMS, but a cobot? For this reason, many a medium-sized company goes to the company on the weekend to check. Olis Robotics from Seattle/USA has taken on the topic and is now successively opening up important robot manufacturers. Following in the footsteps of Universal Robots and ABB, FANUC robots can now also be monitored and - more importantly - corrected via a cell phone app in the event of a fault. Installation is said to take only 30 minutes. All safety standards (data protection, machine safety) are to be met.

Various activities can be monitored

Using Universal Robots as an example, error detection during machine operation, assembly, palletizing, finishing, quality control and material removal can be mentioned. Strongly indivdiualized solutions obviously cannot be monitored. In addition to the software, a terminal device (tablet/mobile phone), three USB cameras and a good data connection are required in operation.

The following video suggests that the light in the Betrib must either always be left on or can be switched on by control, if one wants to look into the operation. Unfortunately, I am not aware of the price of the application. If it is a lower amount and the entrepreneur can sleep better as a result, it is definitely worth it.

The author of this blog is significantly involved in the AI/robotics project Opdra. He advises on almost all issues related to robotics incl funding/subsidies, but does not go in-depth into the technology. More about him can be found here.
