Robot Upgrade: Bota Systems (Force Moment)

There are individual robots that can do more than others. For example, they can be equipped with force-torque sensors. Anyone who wants to buy a new robot can purchase this feature at the same time, if it is desired. However, there is also the case that reach or payload are desired, which are not covered. It also seems conceivable that a company already has a robot that it would like to continue using. In that case, an upgrade would be helpful.

Bota Systems doses the power

Bota Systems was founded 2 years ago out of the robotics laboratory at ETH Zurich. Among other things, a 6-axis force-torque system is available, which allows manual guidance. The accuracy is 10 milinewtons. The weight is around 100g. The price is not known, but in my opinion should be at least 5,000 euros. If this does not damage the surface of e.g. high-tolerance, rigid metal parts, the investment pays off quite quickly.

Typical applications of the systems are polishing/grinding, assembly, tele-operation and manipulation as well as manual guidance of robots. On the one hand, it is about the optimization of modern robots (industrial robots as well as cobots) and also about retrofit.

In the video, no specific contour was programmed for the assembly, only in which limits (frame) the robot should move. The feedback control was set up in the robot controller.
