Grinding and polishing with the Cobot

Polishing is one of the various standard applications that a cobot can perform. Less force is required for this than for grinding. For the latter, the load capacity of the MRK therefore plays an even greater role. The more power, the greater the pressure. In any case, it is important to have an integrated force sensor and to be aware that the sanding sheet will not last indefinitely. Here the question then arises as to who changes it. For an unmanned night shift, the cobot must therefore be able to change the paper independently. Such solutions already exist.

An exotic can be seen in the video. Visually, the French Cobot looks like a powerful giant. With a reach of 160 cm, it is certainly tall, but even it can only lift 10 kg. Its mobility is limited, with only four lines of freedom. Its advantage lies in the possibility of defining spatial curves, which it can subsequently travel again on its own. Presumably, the purchase of a Universal Robot, a Doosan or an Omron would quickly seem more sensible with the appropriate budget and a closer look.

The process of teaching can be automated. The gripper manufacturer Robotiq has a solution that costs about 4,500 euros and is used in the video on Universal Robots:

Can be ground wood, metal, plastic, fiberglass, carbon fiber and thus almost everything that is solid.

However, if you want to use the cobot in a versatile way, a programming aid like the one from drag&bot or Wandelbots might be a helpful compromise. Programming is simplified significantly - in numerous disciplines.
