World championship has begun - that of the robot programmers

While the soccer nation is eagerly awaiting the World Cup, the robot programmers' competition has begun in Luxembourg. Philipp Raab and Marvin Schuster from Germany are taking part. Nico Reiter and Matthias Winkler have come from Austria. Surprisingly, Switzerland is not represented. All participants are adults. Originally the world championship should have taken place in China, but because of Corona the venue was changed. The World Craftsman Championship is organized by Worldskill and FANUC. The following press release also comes from FANUC.

11 teams compete in Luxembourg in the "Robot Systems Integration" competence category

Young robot programmers from 11 regions have traveled to Esch-sur-Alzette, Luxembourg, to compete in the Robot Systems Integration Skills Competition. The competition is a newly added part of the large-scale "WorldSkills Competition 2022 Special Edition" event, which will take place in over 15 different locations this year. The teams competing for the title of best young robot programmer come from Germany, Austria, France, Hungary, Luxembourg, Poland, Great Britain, India, Japan, Singapore and Taiwan.

The venue

1,100 participants are expected across all disciplines

In total, the organizers of this year's WorldSkills expect more than 1,100 participants from 57 countries and regions in 61 competition disciplines. Since 2018, the educational organization WorldSkills International and the world's leading industrial robot manufacturer FANUC have been united in a global partnership to promote young robot programmers. WorldSkills has been working for decades to recognize qualified vocational skills and promote them through numerous regional competitions. WorldSkills is a major international event held every two years and is the pinnacle of these competitions. FANUC, in turn, brings nearly 50 years of experience in the development of industrial robots. More than 840,000 FANUC robots are installed in factories worldwide.

The FANUC color yellow clearly dominates.

The event will also serve to advance robotics

While the trend towards automation continues to advance and robots are now widely used not only in industrial companies and SMEs, but also in crafts and agriculture, there is a shortage of appropriately trained specialists in many countries. By partnering with WorldSkills and helping to organize the International Robotic Systems Integration Competition together with WorldSkills Luxembourg, FANUC aims to give young people the opportunity to learn more about robot programming. The next WorldSkills international championship will be held in Lyon, France, in 2024. A year earlier, Gdansk, Poland, will host EuroSkills, a vocational education and excellence skills competition for European participants.

Visitors can get more info here. The World Cup ends on October 20.
