FLX Bot: robot in the shape of a snake

Since there are enough different robot arms in the meantime, I believe that new startups should turn to application-specific solutions. However, I did not take into account that there are still interesting niches. To fill these niches, FLX Solutions needed investor money of less than $0.5 million and only 3 years of development.

Long like a snake, but extremely narrow

US startup FLX Solution is now offering a "snake robot" for pre-sale. Equipped with a camera, sensor technology and adjustable in length, it can handle most tight tasks. "Only" most because the three to eleven limbs are stiff. Tight turns, therefore, cannot be negotiated. It stands to reason that the FLX will be used primarily for inspection tasks.

Navigation

Since the user will at best be able to touch the end of the FLX, convenient navigation is all the more important. In this regard, the company writes, "The FLX BOT's unique ability to navigate in confined spaces makes it an ideal solution for the inspection and retrofit of old and new buildings. Our first version of the FLX BOT is a co-robotics platform that allows any user to easily inspect, act or react to the environment. And that's just the beginning.

With future software updates and expansion of our modular LNX system, the FLX BOT will be able to autonomously navigate inside walls. In conjunction with one of our innovative end effectors, the FLX BOT can drill a hole in a typical stud without losing the integrity of the structure, as it is only 1 inch in diameter. It can enter adjacent wall sections to inspect and pull new cables for telecommunications. The building envelope can be refurbished or whatever you need to do without disturbing the building's occupants and from the safety of the ground. "
