Grapple: Tentacles like the octopus help

Until now, Bionic has concentrated on beauty. Sometimes something was dirt-repellent like a lotus flower, or sometimes FESTO flew like a dragonfly. An octopus as a model of nature fits less. But the approach is convincing!

Research project dispenses with sensors

Researchers at Harvard's John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences have now developed rubbery pneumatic tentacles. They can easily, quickly and, most importantly, sensibly wrap around the object in question. Of interest later will be the load capacity and how to deal with objects that "strike". Still open is the concept of the operation. It is neither suction nor gripping. Maybe "wrapping" fits.
