KUKA with second generation of mobile KMP 600-S diffDrive

I'm amazed, already the second product news from KUKA since the beginning of the year. Other robot manufacturers have recently added suppliers of mobile robots. FANUC continues to do without its own models. KUKA has been investing in their development for some time. To the press release:

Almost 2m/ second - 600 kg load capacity - safe

Augsburg, January 2023 - A compact powerhouse that meets the highest safety requirements: The new generation of the KMP 600-S diffDrive expands KUKA's range of mobile platforms. At up to two meters per second, the KMP 600-S diffDrive is not only fast, but also safe thanks to laser scanners and 3D object recognition. This collision-free colleague thus takes intralogistics to a new level - especially in the consumer goods industry.

The demands on mobile solutions for industry are high. With the KUKA Mobile Platform KMP 600-S diffDrive, there is now a new driverless transport system that supports production intralogistics quickly and with a payload of up to 600 kilograms. At the same time, the KMP 600-S diffDrive is ideally equipped for the tough everyday conditions of industrial production: thanks to its IP 54 design, it always operates reliably even under adverse conditions, such as splash water and dust.

Maximum safety, maximum flexibility

All mobile platforms from KUKA guarantee employees maximum freedom of movement without protective fences. This is also the case with the KMP 600-S
diffDrive. Laser scanners mounted at the front and rear of the machine provide maximum safety and enable high speeds in all directions of travel when cycle times require it.

"Safety is central for us," says Jakob Brandl, Portfolio Manager at KUKA. "That's why there are eight safety zones each in front of and behind the KMP 600-S diffDrive, which customers can adapt individually - matched to the speed of the vehicle and the application situation." The KMP 600-S diffDrive is expandable with 3D object detection. This enables it to detect obstacles that are between 50 millimeters and 2.10 meters above the ground.

Interfaces for every need

The KMP 600-S diffDrive can link a wide variety of workstations and provides exactly the load handling options that the customer needs. For example, it acts as a top-load AGV ("Automated Guided Vehicle") and can lift pallets or cartons up to 60 millimeters via the integrated lifting device. The KMP 600-S diffDrive is commissioned via a manual controller, and applications can be programmed via JAVA.

KUKA.NavigationSolution for navigation and fleet management

Each KMP 600-S diffDrive has an operating time of around eight hours and can be recharged in two hours. The KUKA.NavigationSolution monitors the entire fleet: it detects the battery charge level and which vehicles are connected to the WLAN. After the initial learning of the environment using the SLAM algorithm, the software solution takes over the localization in space (on the vehicle itself) and the coordination of the vehicles (on a central computer). Using parameters such as distance and speed, the fleet manager determines the best route on the road network - collision-free, of course.

The author of this blog is significantly involved in the AI/robotics project Opdra. He answers companies the question if and how a robot could be used in your company (initial analysis including recommendation). This in the greater areas of Trier and Lüneburg as well as Eastern Germany without Leipzig/ Berlin for 700 € net, in the rest of Germany for an all-inclusive price of 1,750 € net (incl. travel). The low price is possible thanks to promotion. Permanently looking for interesting solutions, he has already seen hundreds of applications. For this reason, his customers also include large companies that have know-how but do not know the entire market. For companies with 250 employees or more or those based in Austria or Switzerland, the flat rate does not apply. You can find more about him here.
