Magazino presents autonomous KLT transporter at LogiMAT

The Munich-based company, which became known as a provider of mobile robots that can handle shoe boxes and more, is increasingly expanding its business. Magazino's investors include Jungheinrich AG, Körber AG, Zalando and Fiege Logistik. The press release is reproduced below in slightly modified form.

Mobile robot SOTO is exhibited publicly and ready for series production for the first time.

The fully autonomous SOTO robot automates material supply in the manufacturing industry and brings small load carriers (KLT) from the warehouse to the assembly line - without any manual intermediate steps. The robot is already in use in several pilot projects, including at VEGA Grieshaber and ZF Friedrichshafen.

AGVs & Co. require unnecessary personnel support

While production lines in the manufacturing industry are highly automated today, the supply of replenishment still takes place predominantly manually. Route trains or simple automated guided vehicles (AGVs) often do not really scale because manual labor is required again each time they are loaded or unloaded.

SOTO combines the elementary process steps in a single, fully autonomous solution: the pickup of KLTs of different sizes, the autonomous transport of several KLTs from source to sink, and the delivery to flow racks at different heights. The collection of empties and the rotation of small load carriers by 90° to 180° are also part of the new robot's repertoire of capabilities.

Up to 20 kg per small load carrier are possible - 24 KLT per robot

Together with several development partners from German industry, Magazino has extensively tested and completely revised the previous prototype of the SOTO robot in recent years. The new capabilities include an increased object weight of up to 20 kilograms per KLT, a transport capacity of up to 24 KLT in the vehicle, and a refined, omnidirectional drive. In addition, the gripper has been redesigned, the cabling has been made more robust and touch displays have been mounted on the vehicle, enabling direct communication with the vehicle.

Prototypes were in use for a long time

The SOTO robot is already in pilot use at ZF Friedrichshafen and VEGA Grieshaber. Back in 2018, the prototype of the robot won the "Best Product" award at the LogiMAT trade fair - now the deployment of large fleets of the production-ready product version is on the horizon. Visitors can experience the new robot live in action at the Magazino booth (Hall 5, Booth D55).
