Various exhibitors, including Stäubli, but also MRK-Systems, had an industrial robot wrapped in AirSkin to demonstrate the possibility of working next to a human without a fence. If the worker touches the skin, the robot immediately stops moving.
The market for miniature robots seems to be attractive. Nachi presented a six-axis compact robot with a reach of only 35 cm and a payload of 1 kg. The lightweight robot is suitable for fast applications and is also very flexible. Yaskawa has had a comparable model on offer for some time:
Isra Vision, a specialist in optical surface inspection, checked the condition of a motorcycle using an industrial robot. This begs the question, why with this and not with a cobot?
The UR16e from Universal Robotics, which was already presented before MOTEK and can carry up to 16 kg with a reach of 90 cm, was also in action:
The Bavarian Digital Summit 2019 also took place in front of an invited audience during MOTEK week. Franka Emika founder Prof. Haddadin emphasized that the Bavarian government has so far kept all its promises. It is perhaps in this context that the Bavarian government's announcement to create 100 new professorships for artificial intelligence should be seen. This figure is exactly the same as the federal government's AI alternative for the whole of Germany. It can be assumed that a considerable proportion of the new Bavarian AI professorships will be used for robotics.
The Munich-based startup Kinexon was also represented at the Digital Summit. Until now, I thought that money could be made with sensor technology in Industry 4.0, but I was proven wrong: Kinexon is heavily involved in sports and measures all kinds of things, for example at soccer matches. It has been so successful that it now has more than 200 employees at several locations.
