Nikon seeks its salvation in robotics
Those who, like the author, are not quite as fresh as they used to be, can still remember the numerous camera manufacturers that used to exist. Pentax, Contax, Yashica, Olympus, Minolta and many more are long gone. What remains are a few brands like Canon, Leica or Nikon that have made the leap into digitalization. Now they have to compete not only with newcomers like Panasonic and Sony, but above all with the constantly improving cell phone cameras. So it's no wonder that Nikon wants to improve its weak balance sheet with new target groups. A consultant would look at which target group offers particular potential.
Nikon trains robots
At Las Vegas CES 2022, Nikon has unveiled camera technology with cognitive capabilities at high speed, according to an article. The combination of robotics and machine vision is bringing a paradigm shift to manufacturing. Nikon's Robot Vision can make robotic movements extremely fast, precise and flexible. By leveraging optical and precision technologies, robotics will be advanced.
Super fast vision
Nikon combines laser, X-ray and optical measurement technology to create a kinetic vision system that is far superior to the human eye. Beyond the ability of the conventional robotic hand to act only as directed, Nikon's robotic vision allows robots to react so flexibly to unexpected events that they appear to be alive. This superior vision will increase productivity and take manufacturing to a whole new level.
Nikon will continue to advance robot vision and drive a paradigm shift to keep the industry sustainable. For more info - in English and Japanese - visit this Nikon website.
